WIS 21 Interchange and US 41 reconstruction over Lake Butte des Morts

Schedule: August 2011 to July 2013

Location: WIS 21 Interchange, US 41 mainline from 1500 feet north of Witzel Avenue, to the US 45 Interchange.

Description: This project involves the reconstruction of the WIS 21 interchange to pass over US 41. The interchange will be completely reconstructed to include roundabouts at ramp terminals and at the WIS 21 intersections with Washburn and Koeller Streets. This project also includes the reconstruction of mainline US 41 from Witzel Avenue to the US 45 Interchange including new bridges over Lake Butte des Morts and Sawyer Creek. The work on the Lake Butte des Mort Causeway will include a recreational trail along the east side of US 41 crossing over the water.

May 7 to May 13: Crews continued building retaining walls on the northwest corner of the WIS 21 interchange. Crews continued building abutments for the WIS 21 overpass. Crews began asphalt base and concrete paving on the new southbound lanes of US 41. Crews started concrete pavement installation on the Washburn Street roundabout. Crews began underground electrical installation throughout the project.

May 13 to May 20: Crews will continue building retaining walls on the northwest corner and begin on the northeast corner of the WIS 21 interchange. Crews will continue building abutments for the WIS 21 overpass. 

Traffic impacts: The southbound shoulders of US 41 are closed between US 45 and Witzel Avenue. Southbound US 41 is reduced to two 11-foot lanes between US 45 and WIS 21. WIS 21 is closed to through traffic between Westhaven Drive and Koeller Street. Access to local businesses is maintained via Rath Lane, Omro Road, and Westowne Avenue. The signed detour to WIS 21 from US 41 will use the WIS 44/WIS 91 interchange. The detour for WIS 21 will use WIS 49 in Auroraville to WIS 91 in Berlin, to WIS 44 to US 45 in Oshkosh.
