US 45 at US 41 in Winnebago County closing next week
Girder placement shuts section of freeway over three days
(Green Bay) The Wisconsin Department of Transportation (WisDOT) Northeast Region is announcing the complete closure of US 45 at US 41 in Winnebago County, from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m., December 27 through December 29. The closure is needed to place steel girders for the new US 45 interchange flyover ramp, connecting northbound US 41 to northbound US 45. Motorists should anticipate possible delays and are strongly encouraged to plan alternate routes.
Details of traffic impacts include:
• Full-freeway closure of US 45 between Fernau Avenue and the southbound US 41 on-and off-ramps for three days, starting Tuesday, December 27, between the hours of 9 a.m. and 3 p.m.
• Northbound US 45 and Fernau Avenue traffic will be routed north on Lake Butte des Morts Drive to Ryf Road (County T) to US 45
• Southbound US 45 traffic will exit at Ryf Road and be directed south on Lake Butte des Morts Drive to US 45
The following ramps will remain open during construction:
• Free-flow ramp from southbound US 45 to southbound US 41
• Southbound US 41 off-ramp to US 45
• Southbound US 41 on-ramp from US 45
The US 41/45 interchange closed to all traffic in April as part of a $31 million reconstruction project. The work involved reconstructing US 45 crossing over US 41 and the construction of a roundabout at the southbound ramp terminals on US 45 west of US 41. That work is now complete and these roadways within the interchange are again open to traffic.
The project also involves providing free-flow movements from northbound US 41 to northbound US 45, and from southbound US 45 to southbound US 41. In September, the southbound ramp connecting US 45 to US 41 opened to drivers. The northbound ramp remains under construction.
All lane restrictions are weather dependent and subject to change.
