US 41 – Mainline (US 45 to Breezewood Lane)
Schedule: March 2011 to June 2013
Location: US 41 - US 45 Interchange to Breezewood Lane
Description: This project involves the reconstruction and widening of US 41. The work includes construction of multiple structures including bridges, box culverts, and sign bridges along with grading, base aggregate, concrete & asphalt pavements, concrete barrier wall, and pavement marking.
May 6 to May 12: Excavation, Grading Breaker Run and Base Aggregate placement are planned between County G and County GG. The contractor will continue removing steel from the rubblized pavement between County GG and WIS 76. Work will begin on the third and final box culvert. The contractor plans to excavate and remove the existing box culvert and place concrete for the floor of the new box culvert. Storm sewer work will continue to follow the grading work.
May 13 to May 19: Excavation, grading and breaker run placement will continue from WIS 76 to County GG. The contactor is changing their operation and working south to north. Storm sewer work will follow the excavation and grading work. Pavement staking and string line will be placed from Snell Road to County Y in preparation for placing asphalt base and concrete pavement. Night work is planned at the North crossover near Cecil Street to install a surface drain to help drain the area and reduce standing water during rain events. Concrete placement will begin on the third box culvert this week. The floor will be constructed first followed by the walls and lid. The contractor will be placing topsoil, seed, fertilizer and mulch in areas where the new ditch has been constructed along the outside of US 41. Riprap will be placed at the ends of the two newly constructed box culverts and the temporary diversion pumps will be removed.
Traffic impacts: Trucks are required to use the left lane thru the work zone due to the vane drains in the right lane that cause a bumpy ride. The speed limit for southbound traffic has been reduced to 55 mph and will remain that way until November 2012. The northbound traffic has been moved into the temporary lanes. On-and off-ramps to WIS 76 and Breezewood/Bell Street remain open. Please observe the advisory speed limits posted on the ramps.
